Who we are

NSW Crime Stoppers is part of a global network of community-based programs which began in New Mexico USA in 1976 and later in NSW in 1989. Crime Stoppers globally solves a crime every 14 minutes and Crime Stoppers in Australia is contacted every six minutes with information leading to an average of four arrests per day. The peak body in Australia is Crime Stoppers Australia.

We collect information which may help police stop, solve or prevent a crime. Some people prefer not to become involved in a police investigation and therefore may not share what they know about a crime directly with police. Crime Stoppers welcomes that information without the person needing to give their name.

Crime Stoppers could not continue to exist and contribute to crime solving if it weren’t for the collaborative efforts of the NSW Police Force and the community. Never underestimate the important role you can play in helping police apprehend those involved in criminal activity. Your phone call could be this missing piece of the puzzle that is essential in solving a crime.

We encourage the public to share information about:

People wanted by police
Unsolved crimes
Crime that is being planned
People you know who have committed criminal offences where they have not been arrested
Suspicious or unusual activity

Rewards

The Board of Crime Stoppers oversees the program and approves reward payments of up to $1,000 if your information leads to an arrest.

Larger payments may sometimes be offered, these are at the discretion of Police.

When you contact Crime Stoppers

You will be provided with a unique code when you contact Crime Stoppers. Use this code when providing further information or to inquire about a reward.
